Tucked between the peaks of Eryri (Snowdonia) and the banks of the River Glaslyn, Beddgelert is one of those villages that rewards a slower visit. Two days is enough to properly explore it — here’s how we’d spend a weekend here.
Start with the walk to Gelert’s Grave, a gentle 20-minute riverside stroll from the village centre that’s suitable for all ages. From there, the braver can continue up toward Cwm Bychan or tackle the Aberglaslyn Pass — a dramatic gorge walk along old slate tramway paths that’s one of the best short hikes in Wales.
For food, the village punches well above its weight for its size — expect proper Welsh cafes, traditional pubs serving Sunday roasts, and a good bakery for breakfast pastries before a day of walking. Most places are within a two-minute walk of each other around the village square.
If the weather turns, Sygun Copper Mine just outside the village offers a self-guided underground tour, and Beddgelert Forest has waymarked cycling and walking trails through the trees regardless of rain. Before you leave, pop into Waterloo House — it’s right in the village and a good spot to pick up a gift or something Welsh-made to take home.
